One HOT day earlier this month I took Mike to visit Arlington Cemetery. He had never been there and I wanted him to see all of the special locations within the cemetery including the incredible changing of the guards at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
We were lucky enough to be able to witness not only the changing of the guards at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, but also a couple of memorial ceremonies for veterans and current soldiers. Also in attendance were a number of WWII, Iraq and Afghanistan veterans visiting the grounds for the day.
One of the freshest graves that we were able to get close to was Ted Kennedy's, which is next to other Kennedy grave/memorial sites the at the base of the hill on which the Arlington House is situated.
One of the final stops in our walk was at the museum (formerly the Arlington House) on the grounds which overlooks all of Washington, DC and parts of Virginia and Maryland. The grounds maintenance is currently working to re-create the gardens as they used to be back when the house was being used as a home.
