One of the greatest things about playing in a softball league in Washington, DC is getting to play ball on the National Mall with the sun setting behind the Washington Monument and the Capitol Building in the background.

Our game day is Thursday and the National Mall is usually packed with somewhere between 30 and 50 teams from the House and Senate leagues. There are about 150 teams in the House league, and about another 100 in the Senate league.

The season is long but a lot of fun. We start in April and play all the way until the middle of September! My team is the Hired Guns, and we are made up of people from 2 lobbying firms and a handful of random people who needed a team.
Right now we are ranked 20th in the House league, and we have qualified for the end of season tournament (the top 50 teams go to the 2-day tournament and play for bragging rights and next year's initial team rankings). After a win we usually go grab dinner and drinks at the Turtle, our regular Thursday hang out spot and a local sports bar.
